Archos AV400 series and Gmini 400 Photo Abilities

Typical of the Archos AV ranges the AV400 and Gmini 400 are accomplished at storing and managing photo collections. You can fit a stupidly large amount of pictures on them. Safe to say that you have no hope of filling an AV480 to capacity without cheating. Archos is learning to standardise, thank god, and as a result what is true for the AV400s is also true for the Gmini 400 in terms of photographs.

Compatible picture types are: JPEGs, except progressives, and Bitmaps (BMPs).

Confusions:

Archos claim that the AV400 and Gmini 400 will work with ANY digital camera. More accurately, they work with the following types of digital camera memory card:

• SmartMedia,
• SecureDigital,
• MultiMediaCard,
• MemoryStick,
• CompactFlash

But not all directly.

AV400 and Gmini 400s have a CompactFlash slot. This can (obviously) take CompactFlash cards. In order to take the other listed card types you must first purchase a 4-in-1 card reader. See here for more information about how the 4-in-1 reader works. In simple terms you stick the non-CompactFlash card reader (of a type listed above) into the card reader, and then the reader into the CompactFlash slot on the jukebox.

You can load pictures from your camera to your jukebox using the above method if you are in the field, or you can download them from your computer using the USB 2.0 connection.

The pictures can then be displayed on the built in screen, or displayed on an external screen, such as a TV.
